Watch the Sky: Lancaster ISD Unveils Student-Built Airplane

Lancaster, TX/Lancaster ISD – Lancaster ISD invites the community to the “From the Classroom to the Clouds: Airplane Reveal event on Friday, October 20 at the Lancaster Regional Airport at 730 Ferris Road in Lancaster, Texas from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

After 12 months of intentional work in a hangar at the Lancaster Regional Airport, we want you to witness the pride of our Lancaster ISD students as they see their operable Cessna 182 student-built airplane soar across the sky.

The student airplane build was a hands-on STEM Learning Challenge for the students to integrate their classroom knowledge into a real world environment with Captain Barrington Irving’s Experience Aviation: Operation Build & Soar program and the new non-profit partner, Wings of Hope.

Wings of Hope will utilize the aircraft in its service missions to deliver essential resources to the poor worldwide and to use the plane in the United States for medical air transport.

In Lancaster ISD, educators believe in providing students with engaged, relevant, learning experiences that will yield a quality education and lead to a quality life.

Prior to this event, we invite the community to step outside and #WatchTheSky to see the airplane built by students fly over the city of Lancaster around 4:30pm.

Please take to time to join us for this commemorative ceremony, meet the students, capture photos, see the airplane and celebrate this major milestone for Lancaster ISD.

For more information, coverage opportunities and schedule your interview, please send an email to Lancaster ISD Chief Communications Officer, Sonya Cole Hamilton at sonyahamilton@lancasterisd.org or call 972-218-1433.
